As a detergent additive, HPMC is mainly used in facial cleansers and body washes. Relying on its thickening, foam stabilizing, suspending, moisturizing and film-forming properties, it enhances the texture and richness of the foam in cleaning products, making the products smoother to use, with more abundant foam and a more comfortable cleaning process.
The model should be selected based on the formula requirements (such as transparency and viscosity) in practical applications. For instance, the low-viscosity grade (E4M) is suitable for transparent gel applications, and the usual addition amount is 0.5% to 3%. Its natural and safe characteristics are particularly suitable for the needs of high-end sensitive skin and eco-friendly cleaning brands.
There are substitutes (such as xanthan gum, carbomer, and cellulose nanocrystals), but they will have limitations.
The addition of HPMC will increase the production cost of the cleaning agent to a certain extent, but its addition amount is relatively low, usually between 0.1% and 1.0%. Moreover, HPMC can enhance the performance of cleaning agents in terms of cleaning effect and storage stability. From the perspective of product quality and market competitiveness, the benefits brought by the rational use of HPMC may exceed the increased cost.
